Where have you been? Where are you going?

Did you serve your mission in Africa? Which part? Are you headed there soon?

Even if you didn’t go there on your mission, have you been to Africa? What country? I served in Johannesburg, South Africa. I suppose it didn’t have as much variation in the terrain as many parts of Africa, but it’s probably one of the most cultural diverse. I’m sure I’ve completely annoyed every member of my family with my crazy African stories, but the place left a major impact on me.

If you could go back, where would you go? The same place, or somewhere new? If you’ve never been to Africa, where would you want to go?

If I could go back, the first place I’d want to see is where I’d been – check up on people, that kind of thing. Next, I think I’d like to try Ethiopia. I had a companion from Ethiopia, and he had the most fascinating stories I’d ever heard. That was kind of a funny thing, too, because rather than being the tiny, starvation stereotype Ethiopian, he was quite large – both big and tall. Not fat, but well built. Sometime I’ll have to tell you about my conversation with him about Gazelem. Anyway, from what he said, there is some fascinating history in some of the libraries and museums of Ethiopia. Someday it would be cool to check them out.

What about you? Where would you like to go, and where have you been?
